Glamis Castle

Tracey says ” I was amazed when I saw Glamis Castle it is just breathtaking, this makes a fantastic day out to see one of Scotland’s finest Castle, its a real spectacle”

Glamis Castle is one of the most impressive, romantic and reputedly haunted castles in Scotland, home to the Bowes Lyon Earls of Strathmore and Kinghorne for hundreds of years and with a splendid interior, and set in beautiful gardens and grounds near Forfar in Angus. The sense of splendour begins as soon as you enter the castle grounds, though the Queen Mother Memorial Gates which, since 2008, have stood at the west end of the village of Glamis From here a dead straight avenue a little under a mile long is aligned perfectly with the castle’s central stair tower, and as you approach the view of the castle gradually opens up, set against the Angus hills in the background. Glamis Castle is surrounded by grounds and gardens. Guided tours of the castle last about 50 minutes, this can be followed by a gentle stroll around the magnificent gardens featuring a walled garden and the Italian gardens. Enjoy lunch or light refreshments in the restaurant and browse through the shop.

This is followed by a visit to The Bothy to some, a bothy is a refuge on the hills… an old stone building offering shelter when the clouds roll in or darkness looms. It’s a pause on a Highland journey, a sanctuary.  A place where travellers converge as kindred spirits, and hip flasks are passed around. A place of stories.Past generations in rural Scotland were proud guardians of the land, protectors of a unique heritage. They pledge to keep that connection strong. That’s why they use traditional methods of production: every bottle is numbered, batched and poured by hand. It’s why we source local produce: we use fresh Scottish berries, rhubarb and other ingredients for our fruit infused gins. They are often found in the great Scottish outdoors, gathering pine needles, heather and other botanicals for their products. And that’s why the team of local people are proud to be packaging and dispatching Gin Bothy products to customers around the world. Even the design of our Gin Bothy bottles – strong, solid, resolute – evokes the values of old. When they first launched Gin Bothy, it was about making the most of what the land had to offer. It was simple really: surplus fresh berry juice from my jam-making operation was not going to waste. I experimented, infusing gin with the fruit juice. The Gin Bothy was born. Today our gins are appreciated by customers who, as they first put bottle to glass, are sealing their own connection with the Scottish glens. This is a fantastic experience for guest, with a unique business set up in an old court yard offering tastings and sampling.  The small dedicated shop offers the opportunity to buy their finest gin.

Glen Clova

Glen Clova offers an amazing opportunity to experience some of Scotland’s most beautiful iconic scenery, it is the best known and most popular of the Angus Glens. It runs for some 18 miles north from Kirriemuir before finishing at Glendoll. The scenery starts as open grazing land and as you journey further along the glen the mountains become more dominant and dramatic as you reach the end of Glen Clova. At Corrie Fee there are some dramatic cliffs and water falls. Glen Clova is one of the quietest areas of the Cairngorms National Park. A single track road with a dead end, there is only one way in and one way out by car. This is a great place to escape to for relaxation, beautiful scenery, wildlife and amazing walking routes. The day trip offers you the opportunity to enjoy lunch at the Glen Clova Hotel, where you can sit and enjoy the fantastic atmosphere of this scenic glen.
